Public Works Program

Purpose

Revitalize, expand, and upgrade physical infrastructure in distressed communities. This program enables communities to attract new industries, encourage business expansion, diversify local economies, generate local investment, and create or retain long-term jobs.

Eligible Activities

Development of key public infrastructure, including but not limited to:

Technology-based facilities

  • Distance learning networks, smart rooms, smart buildings
  • Multi-tenant manufacturing and other facilities
  • Business and industrial parks with fiber optic cable
  • Telecommunications and development facilities


Traditional public works projects

  • Water and sewer system improvements
  • Industrial parks
  • Business incubator facilities
  • Expansion of port and harbor facilities
  • Skill-training facilities
  • Brownfields redevelopment

Eligible Organizations (Grants)

Units of Local Government , Institutions of Higher Education , Counties , Non-Profit Organizations , Federally Recongized Native American Tribal Governments
